This article illustrates how how media shows the interplay of representations and ideologies of class, gender, race, ethnicity and nationality. It showed how cultural and media studies shapes the way that we view the world. With this being said it also looks at those who break the rules of how media shapes the world that they live in. It points out that cultural studies insists that culture must be studied within the social relations and system through which culture is produced and consumed and the study of culture is thus intimately bound up with the study of society , politics, and economics. It also points out the value of cultural studies because it provides some tools that enable individuals to read and interpret culture critically. This is important to say because media allows people to see other cultures without leaving their homes. One thing that may be a problem with this is how the media may portray a culture because if they generalize a culture too much then they will create stereotypes which people will think that is all to the culture. The people will then judge people that they meet form that culture before getting to know them and this may cause people to avoid people or want to be around certain people. Only to be around who they think they are instead of who the individual actually is. The article also illustrates the threefold project of analyzing the production and political economy of culture, cultural texts and the audience. First is to discuss production and political economy. The second is to engage in textual analysis and studies. Finally is the study of the reception and use of cultural texts. All theses steps are very important because first one must understand the text and discuss what its production and political view is in order to get all aspects of the production. The second part is very important because the production must then have analysis so there is a deep understanding of the production. Finally the third step is important because we need to see how the production is being received by the audience so the intended message is portrayed to the audience or if production needs to be changed. The final thing that the article covers is the cultural studies of today. It shows that with all the types of media that are accessible today we must be critical of what we are seeing and must see if the messages being presented to us are important and what they are really trying to say. One question that I would have for the author is how has the increase in media consumption changed the way in which we should be critical of media.
